Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Hallow means to make holy or purify or to consecrate, it is also in the name Halloween or “All hallows Eve” that in itself may be significant as Harry Potters Parents died on Halloween. The origins of Halloween can be traced back thousands of years to the time of the ancient Celts. The night of October 31 marked the transition from summer into the darkness of winter. It also marked the beginning of the Celtic New Year. All Saints day is 1 November.

Potter agent sends piracy warning

Agents for author JK Rowling have sent legal warnings to websites hosting unauthorised electronic copies of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Electronic versions of the new Harry Potter book began appearing on the internet within 12 hours of the sixth instalment going on sale on Saturday.

Pirated audio versions of the hugely-popular book are also available on file-sharing networks.

Agents Christopher Little said they were working to combat piracy.

Reporters' log: Harry Potter launch

Fans around the world are finally getting their hands on the sixth Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The latest installment of the adventures of the boy wizard, by author JK Rowling, went on sale at 0001 BST on Saturday.

BBC correspondents are reporting on the atmosphere in London , Edinburgh , Sydney , New York and Delhi , which are among those cities hosting launch parties.

JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince goes on sale worldwide at midnight on Friday night, ending months of hype, court orders and arrests.

UK book chain Waterstone's says it is expecting about 300,000 at its stores for the late night opening on Friday.

INTERNET retailers are engaged in a cut-throat battle to lure Harry Potter fans when the latest instalment in the boy-wizard's adventures is released this weekend.

Although Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince is supposed to retail at £16.99, such is the level of interest in the publishing industry that retailers are discounting pre-ordered copies at almost 47% off that price

Edinburgh to host prince of Potter parties

EDINBURGH CASTLE will be transformed into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as part of a £50,000 launch party for the eagerly anticipated new Harry Potter book.

The transformation has been overseen by JK Rowling, the author of the series, and will be the centrepiece of one of the most expensive and extravagant launch parties in the history of publishing.

SEATTLE, July 6 - Subplot to the adventures of Harry Potter: Will the muggles boycott the United States edition of his newest book, due out next week, and buy the Canadian version, which is printed on recycled paper, instead?

As the muggles - in Potter parlance, people without magical powers - count the minutes until the springing of "Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince" on July 16, conservationists are seizing on the worldwide fervor over the boy wizard to pressure publishers, especially Scholastic Inc., the United States publisher of the Harry Potter series, to use more recycled paper in its books.
