Ollivanders
A shop in Diagon Alley with Peeling gold letters over the door, which read Ollivander's:
Makers of Fine Wands since 382 B.C. A single wand lay on a faded purple cushion in the dusty window. Owned by an old man with wide, pale silvery eyes shining like moons through the gloom of the shop.
I have come to the conclusion that Ollivander family were probably refugees from the Gaulish war in Roman occupied Europe, Gaul (an area that covered France, Belgium, western Switzerland and the parts of the Netherlands and Germany on the left bank of the Rhine) just sacked Rome and burnt it to the ground, 382 BC, also the battles between the Spartans and the Thebans was at it's height, 382 to 379 BC, in order to escape from the trials of war people were leaving Europe and the Mediterranean and heading to Britain in the hope of making money from the burgeoning export of tin from the South West of England, 400BC to 330BC
The Roman god Indulgentia, Justitia, Liberalitas, Libertas, Patientia, Pax, Pietas, Providentia, are all that are pictured holding wands or scepters including Salus who is seen holding a patera or septer and is using it to feed a serpent which curling around an altar or in her arms.
Perhaps Mr Ollivander or his family were wand makers to the Romans, and decided to escape to the backwater that was England.
As to the cushion in the shop window only Roman Emperors were allowed to use the colour Purple, this colour was later to be adopted by royalty across the world (at least the world that the romans had invaded.)
One last thing I have noticed, from Augustus 27 BC-AD 14 to Commodus AD 180-192 (where a description is known) 11 of the 15 emperors were described as having grey coloured eyes (the other four had wine coloured eyes)
If Mr Ollivander's is the last in a long line of romans who settled in what is now England he might be waiting for the return of the Roman Legion who vanished on their way to a battle with the Celts. The wand was a sign of authority in Roman times and that like the colour purple has been passed down through the ages, modern symbols of power are just up to date copies of the Wand theme, everything from a swagger stick used in the armed forces to the Mace and Black Rod in the House of Commons.
There is also a plant called the Oleander, A common type is called Sister Agnes, but be careful as the whole

whilst ingestion leads to death. Death has also been known to follow the use
of the wood of this plant as a wand or a meat skewer.
