Home to many wizarding shops behind the Leaky Cauldron in London. Just as Knockturn Alley becomes Nocturnally (Knockturnally) when you put the two words together Diagon alley becomes Diagonally. From both Latin diagonalis, and Greek dia, meaning through, and gonia meaning corner.

Diggle, Dedalus
Made shooting stars fly over Kent and met Harry in the Leaky Cauldron wears a top hat, no doubt in order to blend in with the modern day Muggles.A member of the Order of the Phoenix in both wars, and has met Harry three times, he live somewhere in Kent and according to some people, he makes little sense. In Greek Mythology Daedalus once made wax and feather wings to escape a labyrinth he himself built. Daedalus was the father of Icarus, and he fashioned the wax wings that allowed him and his son to escape Crete though Icarus' wings were melted by the sun
Diggory, Amos
A ruddy-faced wizard with a scrubby brown beard, Cedric's father and the head of the Department of Magical Transportation in the Ministry of Magic. Amos from Hebrew for "carried", an Old Testament prophet with a message of doom.
Diggory Cedric
One of the Hogwart's school Triwazard champions whom Lord Voldemort killed. He was a Hufflepuff house student and captain and seeker of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. In chapter 15 of The Philosopher's Stone. Ronan the Centaur said always the innocent are the first victims. At the time we thought he was referring to the unicorn but is it possible that he was referring to a certain boy with unicorn tail hair in his wand? The innocent first victim is none other than Cedric Diggory. Cedric means a battle chieftain

A password required by the Fat Lady before she will admit any students into the Gryffindor tower.

A student who was selling fake powdered dragon claw as an exam-taking aid. It was in fact it was powdered Doxy dropping and therefore dangerous. A Dingle is a deep hollow or small valley usually covered with trees.

Disapparation
A method of travel for experienced wizards, it allows them to Apparate and Disapparate, which involves disappearing from one place and reappearing in another. before anyone is allowed to use this method of travel, they have to take an exam. From the Latin dis to split asunder or reversal, ad (ap) meaning to, paritum come forth, to give birth to.

Sorted the same years as Colin Creevey brother Dennis, a Hogwarts student. To Dobb, is to report someone for their wrongdoing or blame them unfairly

House elf that tries to prevent Harry from returning to Hogwarts for his second year. The Malfoy's had owned him. Dobby comes from either a dotard, a person suffering from the childishness of old age, a person who shows excessive love and affection, or the name for a Brownie see house elf
Doge Elphias
A wheezy-voiced wizard and member of Order of the Phoenix, Was sent with the advance guard to help Harry Escape from the Dursleys. Harry is told that he had met him when Mad eyed showed him the magical Photo of the Original order of The Phoenix. Doge was name used as the title of the chief magistrate in republican Venice and Genoa.
Dolohov Antonin
Supporter of Lord Voldemort and one time prisoner in Azkaban for killing the Prewitts. After he escaped he rejoined the Dark Lord and was part of the team sent to the Deparment of Mysteries. He was recaptured at the end of the Fifth Book . Antonio Salazar was the fascist dictator of Portugal for 36 years until his death in 1968. Though never officially an ethnic cleanser he was a colonialist who ruthlessly put down ethnic uprisings in his country's colonies in Africa. His name is perhaps used as a reference to the dictators past such as Hitler who believed in ethnic purity just as did Slytherin.

Dorking is a rare breed of poultry with five claws on each foot, the poultry is named after a place in Surrey

Draco is a constellation of stars that looks like a dragon but is loosely defined snake. In Latin Draco means dragon.
Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus
The Motto on the Hogwarts crest. Translates from the Latin into Never Tickle a Sleeping Dragon. A wizardly equivalent of Let sleeping dogs lie. JKR said that she wanted a very solid practical motto for Hogwarts as opposed to the strict "onwards and upwards" mottoes of the schools she attended.

Dragons
Many dragon species are still found in the wild throughout Europe. All appear to be are variations on the typical European dragon, with wings and fiery breath. Specific varieties mentioned so far are the Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green, Hebridean Black, Hungarian Horntail, Swedish Short-Snout, and Norwegian Ridgeback. Although captive dragon breeding is now outlawed, dragons are still useful to wizards in many ways. Their heartstrings are used in wands, their dung is used as compost for magical plants, and Albus Dumbledore alone has invented twelve uses for their blood.

A powerful sleeping potion made of asphodel and wormwood. Asphodel - common name applied to certain flowering plants native mostly to the Mediterranean region. In Greek mythology there is an area in Hades, the underworld, called the field of Asphodel. Wormwood - common name for a perennial herb or shrubby plant of the family of composite flowers. Dumbledore Albus Percival Wulfric Brian
Attended Hogwarts, was in Gryffindor in his youth. He is between one hundred and fifty and one hundred and sixty...Albus means light so it's saying he is on the side of light and wisdom. Also Albion is an old name for Britain. Dumbledore is old English for a bumble-bee... a stinging insect which produces very sweet honey, but is not remotely as vicious as other types of bees or wasps. Also, all bees only have the one sting, and will die after using it, JKR says that Dumbledore seemed to suit the headmaster because one his passions is music, she imagined him walking around humming himself.

Dundee:
A city in northern Scotland. Dundee grew up as a small port in the 11th and 12th centuries. Its name may be derived from the words Dun Diagh (Dun's fort). In 1191 King William gave Dundee a charter. That was a document granting the townspeople certain rights. It gave them the right to have their own local government and their own court.

A town near not very near J.K. Rowling's birthplace. It's about 12.8 miles (19km) as the Brooms flies
Dursley Petunia Evans
Harry's maternal aunt. Both Petunia and her sister Lily are named after flowers. The petunia symbolizes anger and resentment. Compare with the Lily which symbolises purity and innocence.
Dursley Vernon
Harry's Muggle uncle, Petunia's husband. Vernon means alder tree --an important tree in Celtic mythology. It is said to bleed when it is cutdown. It secretes a red dyeroheim, which means, "to redden the face."
