A devilish little fairy that wreak havoc

Colour Change charm
A charm that changes an objects colour, Harry mixed up this charm in his O.W.L.s exam with a Growth Charms and the rat he was supposed to be turning orange swelled shockingly and was the size of a badger before Harry could rectify his mistake

Counterjinx
Term for any spell when it is used in opposition to a curse.

Courtroom Ten
Where the hearing on whether to ban Harry from using magic was held. The trial was due to offences committed under the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery and the International Statute of Secrecy by Harry-James Potter

One of Draco Malfoy's goons. If you switch the first letters of Crabbe and Goyle you get grab and coil which is what a snake does to its prey.

Cragg Elfrida
A portrait of her hangs in the ministry near to where Arthur Weasley was attacked, Dumbledore sent 'Everard and Dilys there to check, Everard went into Elfrida's picture and could see Arthur covered in blood, 'Everard and Dilys were two of Hogwart's most celebrated Heads, and therefore their portraits were hanging in most wizarding building, but Elfrida's pictue was closer to where Arthur Weasley was found. Cragg, variant on the name Craig, a dwelling or person who lives near steep and precipitous rocks From the Gaelic word creag. Elffida from Old English ælf meaning elf and thryth meaning strength.

Creevey Colin
A year younger than Harry. Colin is also in Gryffindor and he may be Harry's biggest admirer (after Ginny Weasley). Colin was always following Harry around trying to take his picture and get his autograph.

Creevey Dennis
Colin's younger brother sorted into Gryffindor, two years younger than Harry, on the boat ride across the lake he fell into the water and had to be helped back into the boat by the giant squid, the fact of which he is very proud.

Cresswell, Dirk
A Muggle-born student in the year behind Lily Evans, Now the head of the Goblin Liaison Office.
From Old English coerse meaning Dweller by the watercress stream. Dirk, a Flemish version of Derrick, also a long straight-bladed dagger, from Scotland

Cribbages Wizarding Crackers
A magical version of Christmas crackers, a traditional British Christmas dinner, party favour, consisting of a wrapped tube containing a bad joke, a hat, and a surprise.

Crinolines:
Clothing made with crinoline, a stiff fabric made of horsehair that was used primarily in the 19th century. At first it was used in hats and shoes, and later to make dresses, petticoats, and other things as a substitute for stiffened muslin.

Crisps
Thin slices of potato deep fried and flavoured. In America they are known as chips, much to the confusion of the British.

Croaker
Worker in the Department of mysteries. An unspeakable. To croak is to die or kill, to grumble, or forebode evil and Croaker is a person who does these things

Crockford Doris
A woman Harry meets at his first trip to The Leaky Cauldron

Crookshanks.
Hermione's bow legged cat's, its ginger fur was thick and fluffy, and its face looked grumpy and oddly squashed, as though it had run headlong into a brick wall Crookshanks is a part cat part Kneazle hybrid. Jo Rowling met a cat in a London park the cat looked and acted as described in the book, Crook meaning bent or dishonest, and shank is a long straight piece or handle or the leg from knee to foot.

Crouch Bartemius Jr
Tortured Mr. and Mrs. Longbottom and escaped from Azkaban (with his fathers help) only to stun then impersonate Alastor Moody throughout the forth year of Harry's time at Hogwarts, he killed his father Bartemius Crouch senior and buried him in the Forbidden Forest. Received the Dementor's kiss. Bartemius was the name of a blind beggar in the Bible that Jesus restored his eyesight. Mark 10:51-52

Crouch Bartemius Senior
A stiff, upright, elderly man, dressed in an impeccably crisp suit and tie. The parting in his short grey hair was almost unnaturally straight, and his narrow toothbrush moustache looked as though he trimmed it using a slide rule. His shoes were very highly polished. He was a fervent hater of Death eaters and sent his own son to Azkaban, but helped him escape, and kept him imprisoned using one of the illegal curses,

Cruciatus curse
The victim experiences extreme pain. One of the unforgivable curses used in torture can drive a person insane, Latin root is crux (cross) early use of the word means to put to the rack (torture). see Longbottom.

Crucio
The incantation used in the Cruciatus curse. Latin for torment, or to torture

A creature fabricated by The Quibbler

Crup
Doglike creature with a forked tail Strangely enough crup is the word for the rump of a horse.

Crystal bubbles
Lighting in the corridors of St Mungo's Hospital, they are filled with magical candles and look like giant soapbubbles

Cuffe, Barnabas
The editor of the Daily Prophet. Cuffe from Middle English word cuffe ‘glove’. A maker of gloves. It is possible to make “off the cuff remarks, not a good idea when dealing with newspapers and journalists as Jo has found to her cost.

A book by Vindictus Viridian Hagrid would not let Harry purchase in Flourish and Blotts, Harry wanted to learn how to curse the Dursleys. Vindictus comes from the Latin root form of vindicta meaning revenge, virid(ian) means to be green, possible a hint towards envy

Curse of the Bogies
A curse Professor Quirrell told his students about. Bogies are mischievous but harmless spirits who live in cellars barns attics cupboards hollow trees and caves. Although they try to move with attempted stealth their clumsiness betrays their presence with thumps creaks and scuffles. They amuse themselves by hovering behind a person's back and thus creating a vague uneasiness pulling blankets on cold nights and other uncreative mischief. Also they like to spy on people and listen to their conversations. However Bogies is also British slang for nasal mucus.

Cursed Hat
A less than welcome present sent to Bill Weasley by his ex pen friend from Brazil it made Bill's ears shrivel up.

Cuthbert
Head of the Goblin Liaison Office. St. Cuthbert (d. 687) was bishop of Lindisfarne and is one of the most popular saints in northern England. Also a term for a conscientious objector in World War I.
